The Backseat Rally is proud to present its inaugural race from Istanbul to Tbilisi, driven by a shared sense of adventure and a desire to make a positive impact.
Our chosen route takes us through the captivating landscapes of the Black Sea Coast and the majestic western Caucasus Mountains, offering a blend of thrilling exploration and cultural immersion. Beyond the thrill of the race, we are deeply committed to supporting the earthquake-stricken regions of Eastern Turkey with our fundraiser.

How did you choose the route?
Our chosen route is an embodiment of adventure and, while certainly off the beaten track, has been popular with the hitchhiking community for decades due to its breathtaking scenery, culinary delights and culturally immersive experience.
It closely resembles a significant stretch of the historical “hippie trail”, which used to be symbolic for an alternative way of life and travel, with Istanbul being one of its hotspots for adventurers to meet and exchange. Our participants will have the chance to explore this path and its remarkable regions, forging unforgettable connections with local communities. Furthermore, this route allows us to be in close proximity to our teams, ensuring convenience, accessibility and safety.
Even though the trail has been largely abandoned by those who used to frequent it, hitchhiking is still well established in the countries of Turkey and Georgia. It remains an alternative mode of travel in which your thumb alone can reveal a world of unexpected events and wild encounters.
